Trauma and abuse counselling supports people who have experienced emotional, physical, sexual, or psychological harm. Trauma can result from a single event or from ongoing experiences over time, including childhood abuse, intimate partner violence, neglect, or systemic harm. These experiences often affect how safe you feel in your body, relationships, and daily life. Counselling offers a space to heal at your own pace, with care, respect, and attention to safety.
This work focuses on reducing the impact of trauma while supporting resilience and reconnection.
Trauma-informed counselling begins with establishing safety, choice, and trust. You are never pushed to share more than feels manageable, and there is no requirement to retell traumatic experiences in detail. The pace and focus are guided by what supports your sense of stability.
Therapists may draw from approaches such as EMDR, somatic therapy, polyvagal-informed care, parts-based work, or relational approaches, depending on your needs and preferences. The work is collaborative and responsive.
Over time, many people experience reduced reactivity, increased emotional regulation, and a greater sense of agency. Trauma becomes something that can be held and integrated, rather than something that continues to dominate daily life.
