common questions

What types of counselling and psychotherapy services do you offer?

We offer a variety of counselling and psychotherapy services for individuals, couples, and families, both in-person and online. Our team members are trained to help with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems and more

How do I schedule an appointment?

There are a few options here:

How much does counselling cost?

Because EVC is a group of independent professionals, all of our team members set their own rates based on standard rates for equivalent service within our profession

The standard rate for individual sessions with registered professionals starts at about $130 and varies based on the level of expertise, experience, additional training, and also is adjusted for session length and type

Some of our fully registered team members offer sliding scale fee options, on a case-by-case basis, which can be determined during a free online consultation session

Sessions with our Interns are regularly $60 with some options for rates as low as $30 per session

How do I choose the right counsellor for me?

Research shows that having a good ‘fit’ with your counsellor is one of the most important factors for successful outcomes and client wellbeing. There are three important aspects of fit to consider: shared understanding of the goals of therapy, feeling of bonding or collaboration with your therapist, and the applicability of their approach to help with the kind of changes you want to experience.

At EVC we believe that who you work with and what makes a good fit is your choice. We can’t always predict who would be a good match, and sometimes someone who looks great might just not feel right for you to open up to.

Our clinic has counsellors with very diverse expertise, backgrounds, approaches and personalities. We offer a wide range of supports, which gives you options.

We recommend browsing our team member profiles on our counsellors page (our filters can help you narrow down on common search areas) or reaching out to us so we can support you in getting connected with a counsellor who best meets your specific needs and preferences.

You can contact therapists directly for more info, book these yourself via the links in individual team members’ profiles, or our admin team can help you with that!

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

Counselling can be beneficial for anyone who wants to improve their mental health and well-being. If you are experiencing difficulties in your personal or professional life that are causing distress, counselling may be able to help you develop coping strategies, improve communication, and enhance your overall quality of life.

Is everything I say in a session confidential?

Yes, everything you say in a counselling session is confidential. Our counsellors adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and will not share any information about your therapy sessions without your written consent, except in cases where there is an immediate risk of harm to yourself or others

Can I use Insurance to pay for my sessions?

Check with your extended health benefits plan to see if you are covered for Counselling. Most plans cover RCC’s, CCC’, RP’s, or RSW’s for Counselling sessions, but plans vary widely based on which package your employer has purchased.

I want to use a 3rd party payer (ICBC, FNHA, WorkSafeBC, CVAP). Do you work with these groups?

Many of our Counsellors have opted to work these groups, but they may have limited availability in their caseloads for clients seeking 3rd party coverage. We’ve got a filter in our Counsellors list to help you narrow down which practitioners might be able to help you, or contact us for more support to figure this out.
