Meet Our Intern Counsellors

East Vancouver Counselling’s graduate Intern Counsellors bring fresh insights and new research from their studies to their work with you.

They offer accessible, affordable low-cost counselling to a diverse range of clients who are seeking support with concerns around anxiety, depression, overwhelm, health and wellness, gender & sexuality, grief & loss, trauma, couples and relationship issues, and much more.

EVCs Interns work in-person and online with individual adults, couples, children, and youth and are closely supervised and supported by highly experienced, fully licensed, senior EVC Team Members.

Kevin Honig | MACP (Candidate)

Approach We will incorporate information from evidence based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and mindfulness techniques to address anxiety, depression, identity, life changes and transitions, emotional and relationship problems, as well as support for stress and burnout, career, workplace problems, and more.  My work is trauma-informed, as well as LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming. 

Services I work with adults and youth (12 years and up), offering both in-person and online sessions with flexible evening and weekend availability.

Therapeutic Style If you’re trying to figure out complicated social or emotional situations, I can help. My calm, warm, and attentive demeanour, paired with my genuine care and curiosity about your life and concerns, set the foundation for safety in our work together.

Jennifer Thompson | MC (Candidate)

Approach I integrate a blend of techniques, including Emotion-Focused, Attachment, Mindfulness-Based, Cognitive Behavioural, and Somatic therapies, all grounded in a trauma-informed framework. My approach is client-centered, tailored to honour your unique needs and experiences.

Services I work with trauma, anxiety, stress & burnout, substance misuse and more. I aim to support clients in navigating their healing journey with compassion and empowerment.

Darci Layke, MACP (Candidate)

Approach Darci blends Cognitive Behavioural, Emotion-Focused, Narrative, Solution-Focused, and Somatic therapies to support her clients’ unique journeys. With advanced training in the Gottman Method, she brings a client-centered perspective that emphasizes collaboration and autonomy.

Services: Darci provides affirming support for clients navigating neurodivergence and diverse sexualities and she welcomes individuals, couples and members of non-traditional relationship structures who are striving to live more authentically and embrace their true selves. 

Therapeutic Style Empathetic, open, and non-judgmental, Darci fosters a safe space for honest dialogue and self-discovery. As a queer, non-monogamous, transgender, autistic woman, her lived experience and professional background in these communities allow her to deeply understand and support her clients’ journeys toward self-acceptance and fulfilling relationships.

Francesca Di Libero | MACP (Candidate)

Approach Warm, client-centred, non-judgmental

Therapeutic Style Francesca draws on Narrative, Solution-Focused, and Cognitive Behavioural therapies to provide an open, accepting space for healing and growth. She works with clients of all ages to help them navigate life’s challenges with compassion and self-awareness.

Joni Louie | MACP (Candidate)

Approach Joni works from a client-centered, trauma-informed, relational, and mindfulness-based perspective, integrating tools from Solution-Focused and Cognitive Behavioural therapies and the Gottman Method. With over two decades of yoga and meditation practice, she often explores pain points through the breath, body, and mind-body connection.

Services Joni supports clients navigating stress, anxiety, depression, family and intimate relationships, and trauma. She is dedicated to providing holistic, culturally responsive, and neurodivergent-affirming care, helping clients build emotional resilience and healthier coping skills.

Therapeutic Style Warm, compassionate, and collaborative, Joni fosters connection in her work to support clients in finding clarity in their relationships with themselves and others.

phil di loreto (MC Candidate, Intern Counsellor)

Approach My approach integrates over 15 years of professional experience fostering psychologically safe environments with developmental coaching and counselling techniques. I aim to create a collaborative, non-judgmental, and affirming space where you feel seen, cared for, and empowered. Together, we’ll work towards navigating life’s challenges with clarity and courage.

Services I support individuals navigating workplace challenges, exploring identity (including queer identity and later-in-life self-discovery), or seeking personal growth and self-compassion. I also work with couples and those in diverse relationship structures seeking deeper connection and understanding. My lived experience informs my work with clients embracing their identities at any stage.

Therapeutic Style My therapeutic style draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-based methods, the Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I incorporate a social justice lens, acknowledging systemic impacts on well-being. My aim is to help you deepen self-awareness, foster fulfilling relationships, and grow in ways that feel authentic and true to you.

Mark Sheehan | MACP (Candidate)

Approach With several years of crisis counselling experience, my approach is warm, person-centred and trauma-informed. I hope to create a space where you feel welcomed, just as you are, to explore your unique needs, experiences and solutions. We may use a blend of techniques from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural, Narrative, Existential and Solution Focused Therapy to help guide us towards what is the best approach for you.

Services I work with adults who are interested in support with navigating life’s challenges, whatever they may be. I offer both in-person and online session options, with evening and weekend availability.
