Michael (they/them/he/him) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor/wellness consultant focused on relationships, transitions, and issues relevant to men and queer/trans/non-binary people. He describes his work in a nutshell as “Helping people develop better relationships with themselves, achieve more harmony and intimacy in relationships with others, and pursue greater quality of life”. Michael has a passion for issues related to gender/sexuality and communication/conflict. Michael identifies as gay, an introvert, and a person in recovery; he’s previously struggled with anxiety, isolation, and international relocation.
Michael works from a holistic integrative stance, meaning he considers the whole of each unique client and draws on several different counselling approaches. He often integrates narrative, Gestalt, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and solution-focused therapies, while he values techniques from CBT, DBT, IFS, as well as existential and contemplative approaches. Michael has previously worked in career counselling, addiction treatment, and youth work. He has experience in the realms of communication enhancement, conflict resolution, non-binary, polyamory, and other non-traditional relationship styles, although he finds his work with hetero clients in traditional relationships just as effective and fulfilling. Michael emphasizes client collaboration in treatment planning, as well as honest feedback.
Michael offers wellness consultations for clients who have no specific challenges or goals but want to improve their health and quality of life. He encourages anyone who has questions about how therapy can be effectively tailored for them to get in touch or book a free consultation. Michael is available for in-person sessions on Sundays, and online sessions Monday mornings and in the afternoons and evenings Wednesday through Friday.
