Kate Stephen

(MACP Candidate, Intern Counsellor)

Hi, I’m Kate (she/her). My work is grounded in the belief that each person carries worth, wisdom, and the capacity for growth, even in moments of pain or uncertainty. I know firsthand what it’s like to feel stuck, and I also know the transformation that becomes possible when someone walks alongside you with authenticity and empathy. In our work together, there is room for everything – grief, anger, shame, laughter, joy- held at all times with care and respect. My approach is person-centred and strengths-based, drawing from attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

With six years of experience as a teacher in the BC public school system, I have worked closely alongside youth and families navigating trauma, cross-cultural and racialized experiences, neurodiversity, and mental health challenges. In my counselling practice, I support youth and young adults as they navigate difficulties related to anxiety, identity, self-esteem, life transitions, and relationships. I also work with parents and caregivers as they face the complexities of raising children in today’s fast-paced, evolving world. Guided by a relational and systems-oriented lens, I recognize that healing happens through connection, context, and understanding the larger forces shaping our lived experiences. I warmly welcome individuals of all identities and backgrounds into my practice – my priority is to create a space where all parts of you feel welcomed, understood in fullness, and embraced with warmth and acceptance.
