Joni Louie (she/her) is completing her master’s degree in counselling psychology and is a student intern at East Vancouver Counselling. Joni believes counselling provides a safe space to process and unpack the multilayered experiences of life – from everyday stress to unexpected (and sometimes unimaginable) challenges. She uses compassionate awareness and active collaboration with clients to help them move forward with a greater sense of understanding, empowerment and well-being.
Joni works from a client-centered, relational, and mindfulness-based perspective. Having practiced and taught yoga and meditation for over two decades, she is often drawn to explore pain points through the breath, body, and mind-body connection. However, her current practice also includes tools from solution-focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and attachment-based and trauma-informed approaches.
Joni supports clients in cultivating greater self-compassion, healthier coping skills, emotional resilience, clarity on family and intimate relationship patterns, and other tools for navigating change. She is also committed to continually finding ways to provide holistic, culturally responsive, and neurodivergent-affirming care.
