(MC Candidate, Intern Counsellor)

Accepting Clients from Mon Jan 5, 2026

Hi, I’m John (he/him): a queer counselling intern completing my Master of Counselling at City University.

In a world that sometimes feels too fast or too loud, therapy offers a place to slow down, reflect, and find your footing again. I bring a warm and direct presence to the counselling relationship. Grounded in values of curiosity, courage and compassion, I will hold your story with dignity and care. I am particularly interested in supporting individuals navigating grief, identity, addiction, anxiety, depression – and those still trying to find their place. All are welcome here.

I draw from a humanist–existential orientation that centres meaning, purpose, and connection. I take a trauma-informed stance that honours past hurt without letting it define you. Narrative work, which pays attention to the stories we carry and the meanings we make, helps make space for complexity, contradiction, and growth. And close attention to how emotion is felt, identified, and expressed helps us understand what matters, what hurts, and what need is going unmet.

I am mindful that power, privilege, and positionally shape every encounter. As a continuous learner, I welcome your questions and feedback during our work together.

Outside my counselling role, you can find me gardening, planning a trip, following my foodie husband to new local restaurants, or negotiating boundaries with our cat, Carl.

Culture & Identity: Coming of age during the AIDS crisis – an era marked by loss, defiance, and resilience – shaped me deeply. Lived experience with grief, recovery, queerness, and survivorship gives me a deep respect for what it takes to endure, adapt, and begin again.
